Stay Focused, Stay Safe: Don’t Drive Distracted

Don't text and drive signage

Arriving safely is always better than risking the consequences of distracted driving

Here are five important tips to help drivers avoid distractions while on the road:

Prepare in Advance
Before starting your journey, ensure your GPS is set up, mirrors and climate controls are adjusted, and loose items in your vehicle are secured. This proactive approach reduces the need for adjustments while driving, allowing you to focus on the road ahead.

Use Hands-Free Technology
When making or taking phone calls while driving, choose hands-free devices or Bluetooth connectivity. Keep conversations brief and avoid complex or emotional discussions that could distract you.

Avoid Multitasking
Refrain from activities like eating, grooming, or using electronic devices while driving. If needed, find a safe spot to pull over and address these tasks. Remember, driving requires your full attention, and multitasking increases the risk of accidents.

Activate Do Not Disturb Mode
Use the "Do Not Disturb" or "Driving Mode" features on your smartphone to minimize distractions while driving. These functions silence incoming calls, messages, and notifications, or send automated responses to let others know you're driving.

Plan Breaks for Texting or Calling
If you need to send a text or make a call, wait until you reach your destination or pull over to a safe location like a parking lot or rest area. Never use your phone while driving, even when stopped at a red light or in traffic, as it can still divert your attention.

By consciously avoiding distractions while driving, you not only protect yourself but also contribute to road safety for everyone. Remember, arriving safely is always better than risking the consequences of distracted driving.
